About supervision and control

The Head of Public Defender’s Office carries out supervision over quality and time periods of legal aid provision by Public Defenders. 

Complaints related to the offered services can be presented to the Head of the Office or the Deputy Heads. Supervision over the activity of Public Defender’s Office is carried out by the Chairman of the RA Chamber of Advocates. Coordination of activity of the Office is done by the Deputy Chairman of the RA Chamber of Advocates. In the composition of RA Chamber of Advocates Public Defender’s Office a Monitoring Group operates. Staff responsible for monitoring keeps under its attention the quality of the free legal aid provided by Public Defenders, reporting and the situation of conformity with the requirements of inner regulations. Staff responsible for monitoring collects and summarizes beneficiary satisfaction figures and evaluations, reveal issues of common nature, and, with the mediation of the Head of the Office assist in the performance of supervision function.

Public Defenders being advocates abide by the requirements of RA Chamber of Advocates Charter and Advocate’s Conduct Code for the breach of which they can be subjected to liability by the Board of the RA Chamber of Advocates.
